Roberto Bustos worked with Cesar Chavez during the United Farm Workers’ most turbulent times in the 1960s and ‘70s. Roberto was a picket captain and organizer. He went to speak with workers in their homes and farm labor camps and followed trucks and trains shipping struck grapes. Roberto was captain of the historic 350-mile farm worker peregrinacion or march from Delano to Sacramento, from March 17 to April 10, 1966. It placed the farm workers’ plight squarely before the nation’s conscience. Later, he helped administer union contracts.
